Work-Study
The Dean of Students Office has an opening for a Federal Work-Study position for the fall of 2006 working in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Center at UNC-CH. Students who receive Work-Study as a part of their financial aid award are eligible to apply.
The LGBTQ Center Work-Study position provides administrative, clerical and programming support. Administrative and clerical tasks include filing, word processing, research, organizing office documents and interacting with office constituents. Work-study students also develop and oversee office programs with the guidance of the Assistant Director. Preference is given to students who can work a minimum of 10 hours and have experience and/or knowledge of LGBTQ issues. The work schedule can be negotiated around class schedules, but generally includes daytime hours between 9 am – 6 pm, Monday through Friday.

Volunteer
The LGBTQ Center accepts applications and trains volunteers throughout the year. Office volunteers provide administrative and programmatic support. All office personnel will be trained to handle commonly arising situations. Both undergraduate and graduate UNC-CH students are encouraged to apply.
To be a Volunteer, applicants should:

Demonstrate a desire to eliminate heterosexism and homophobia on campus

Reflect the diversity of campus community in gender identity, race/ethnicity, age, academic interests, and peer group affiliations

In the LGBTQ Center, Volunteers are expected to:

Volunteer 2-4 hours every week

Provide office support

Assist in event and program planning

Provide individual assistance to students seeking information and support
Speakers Bureau Panelist
We are always looking for participants on our Speakers Bureau panels. The Speakers Bureau provides panels of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied UNC students the opportunity to share their personal stories about being LGBTQ or an Ally on campus. Panelists respond to questions and comments from an audience, and are used in classrooms, trainings, and workshops.
