Upcoming Special EventsLGBTIQ Advocacy AwardThe LGBTQ Center is also accepting nominations for the LGBTIQ Advocacy Award, which recognizes contributions to or advocacy on behalf of the LGBTIQ communities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Individuals who have contributed in one or more of the following ways are eligible for consideration:
One graduating undergraduate and one graduate/professional student will be selected to receive the award. The awardee will be honored at Lavender Graduation. DEFYne MeUnion Cabaret Race, sexual orientation, and gender-identity intersect, affecting who a person is and their lived experiences. Spoken word artists and performers will reflect on how intersections of race, sexual orientation, and gender-identity have affected their lives. Lunch and Learn Seminar SeriesUnion 3206 The Sexuality Studies Program and the LGBTQ Center are collaborating to offer monthly Lunch & Learn seminars at which Sexuality Studies faculty and others will present on current research on LGBTIQ topics and/or work done from queer theoretical perspectives. Bring your lunch, your curiosity, and join us for these engaging discussions. Graduate Social Hour and a Half (G-SHAH)Café Driade Loretta RossCarroll 111 Loretta Ross founded the organization Sister Song, which works with women of color for reproductive justice. She will be speaking about connections between reproductive justice and the LGBTQ community. Come out to see an amazing speaker! Breaking the Silence/End of Year CookoutLocation TBD (see News & Notes publicity) Lavender GraduationCarroll 111 The LGBTQ Center cordially invites you to participate in the planning of this year’s Lavender Graduation ceremony. Lavender Graduation is a commencement ceremony honoring graduating Sexuality Studies minors, LGBTIQ-identified students, and Allies. The ceremony provides a more personal setting in which to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of these students during their tenure at UNC-Chapel Hill.
